Outokumpu LDX 2101® material has been officially approved for use when building pressure equipment. Fabricators can refer to the European Approval of Material (EAM) to show conformity with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) when using flat LDX 2101® ≤10 mm. The European Approval of Material for lean duplex was publicly announced in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on 27 March 2012.
The Pressure Equipment Directive requires that materials used for pressure equipment must either comply with a Harmonised Standard Material; be covered by a European Approval of Material (EAM); have particular material appraisal (PMA). For applications fabricated of LDX 2101® in other dimensions than ≤10 mm, a Particular Material Appraisal (PMA) will show the applications’ conformity with the European Pressure Equipment Directive.
Outokumpu LDX 2101®, a lean duplex grade developed and patented by Outokumpu, boasts a low nickel content of 1.5% making its price less dependent on the volatile price of nickel. In addition to good corrosion resistance, LDX is twice as strong as standard austenitic grade.
